Below is the text and video of a new Spoken Word poem. I hope it encourages you.
The name of Jesus hits me right in the chest
Whether I’m cynical, angry, confused, or depressed
It speaks to me
It resounds in my breast
J.E.S.U.S.
The name of Jesus breaks the chains of the oppressed
Gives a voice to the silenced-
Women, minorities, the different, and suppressed
Gives me sustenance when I’m starving
Gives me grace that’s disarming
J.E.S.U.S.
The name of Jesus sees me at the well
It knows who I am
Why I’m there
Where I’ve been
They bring condemnation for my sins
You bring condensation without end
Living water
Forgiving Father
Purchased, adopted
Sons and Daughters
J.E.S.U.S.
The name of Jesus restore ears when I’m violent
When my devotion becomes unhinged
It forgets denial when I’m silent
And brings me from fear to faith again
And even though I watched you die a criminal’s death
As a means to make a way out
The name of Jesus puts my hand in your side when I am overcome with doubt
J.E.S.U.S.
The name of Jesus puts my passion before my purpose
It eliminates my “I deserve this”
And my “look I earned this”
And my “glory to me for my will is perfect”
Until there is nothing left but a blessed and humble servant
J.E.S.U.S.
The name of Jesus pursues me in my defiance
It loves me and has me when I insist on being self reliant
It protects me and guides me to the places that are best
And in the middle of this sometimes, often human hell
It is my quiet place
My house of holy rest
J.E.S.U.S.
May I never say it without feeling
May I never spell it without kneeling
May I never keep it to myself,
Or hold your story at bay
But may I be constantly, constantly, constantly giving it away
J.E.S.U.S.
Justice
Entreater
Sovereign
Unrelenting
Savior

Jehovah
Emanuel
Supreme
Unexpected
Son of Man, Son of Mary, and the Son of God as well
J.E.S.U.S.
I can’t say it enough
Pray it enough
Sing, dance, or play it enough
Because the name of Jesus hits me right in the chest
It resides in my center
It abides in my breast
And when I’m guilty and gutted
Pursued and pressed
When everything about everything needs changing
The name of Jesus steps in
And it changes everything
